On Saturday the 21st of December, the Malta Union Club held a One Day Event where players of all levels participated in a day full of tennis!
Organised by our very own member and national team player, Liam Delicata, as well as his team of volunteers, players were divided according to skill level (beginners, intermediates and advanced) and played out a minimum of 3 matches each.
The scoring system of the event was match tiebreaks to 10, which allowed for lots of matches to be played on the day, with a total of 39 matches played between 9:30 AM and 5:30 PM.
The event was a great success with plenty of people filling the surrounding area of the ground floor tennis court as well as participating in the event itself.
Players were all gifted welcome gifts when signing in, including goodies from the sponsors of the event, such as Flavours for Health, Oakberry, tal-Qroqq Fitness Centre and Atlas Insurance.
After each event concluded, a small presentation was conducted and a medal of participation was given to each participant as well as a gift bag from Oakberry and a voucher from Bolt.
Winners of the events were as follows:
- Beginners: Yulia van den Bok and Stas Rabinovic
- Intermediates: Daryl Magri and Thomas Borg
- Advanced: Jean Paul Azzopardi Holland
Members of the Malta Union Club committee as well as members of the Malta Tennis Federation, were in attendance to witness the tennis event unfolding.
The success of the event encourages the possibility of similar events to be held at the club in the future, in order to help bolster the popularity of tennis as well as competitive tennis in Malta!
