This is the first newsletter of the year and the last one before the Annual General Meeting that is going to be held on 28 March 2025.
Members Behaviour
We really never expected to be writing the following in a newsletter. Certain events have occurred at the club which have left us flabbergasted. We are not going into specifics.
- We would like to remind both members and club or restaurant staff to show mutual respect towards each other. We do not mean that staff are to be servile to members but the members are not to treat them in an undignified manner. We all human beings and have to respect each other.
- In addition the restaurant staff are complaining that there is a certain amount of pilfering going on. Members asked for packets of crisps, peanuts etc. While the restaurant staff complained, there has been no suggestion that they will be stop providing them. However, I would not be surprised if they are pushed to this action. I will not, then, entertain complaints.
- Club staff are noticing certain, at the moment, petty things going on. Items are disappearing from the toilets, fiddling with the power switches, which have caused huge inconvenience to the staff, fuses from the dryers taken out. Again the question is Why? Whoever is responsible has to realise that the club is for everyone and any voluntary or involuntary action will be inconveniencing all the other member. We are now ensuring that all doors, cabinets etc are locked and where no key exists we are fixing padlocks
CCTV Cameras
We had approved the purchase of some 25 CCTV camera and this week we are commencing their installation. These were being installed first and foremost for the safety of the staff and members. In view of what we wrote above it seems their installation is more than timely.
200-year Celebrations
As mentioned in the December newsletter a sub-committee was set-up to prepare the agenda for the 200 year celebrations. The committee is made up of Anna Grech, Carol Zammit Briffa and Micheal Borg Cardona. Any members who have any ideas or suggestions to make regarding this event please do not hesitate preferably to contact them directly or any committee member.
Website and Facebook
We are in the process of updating our website with current information. The re-vamp of the website is nearing its final approval and hopefully it will be up and running in a matter of weeks. We hope that the website instead of being bland will be more colourful and informative.
We are taking everything at a slow pace and once we are satisfied with the website we will then turn our attention to the Facebook page. It is the understanding of the committee that in today’s age, it is extremely important to have a social media exposure and the information current. Today, especially the young generation, browse extensively the internet for practically all their needs and wants. Hopefully an attractive Website and Facebook page will entice prospective members to seriously consider joining the Malta Union Club
Members register
We are starting to acquaint ourselves with the new system that we purchased to modernise the upkeep and interaction with the members. At a later stage this year, we will issue detailed instructions on how the system works. The members will have a lot of autonomy in the system, but those who are unsure can always call at the office for any help.
Lifts
The lifts are now fully functional and hopefully the amount of repairs to the old lifts will be something of the past at least for the foreseeable future. Each lift has on seat in the hopefully rare case that the lifts stops one can sit down until help arrives. We sincerely that these occasions few and far between.
Please remember that if the doors are closed, this does not mean that the club is closed as well. The doors open and close with the pressure of the car on the pads.
Car Wash
My we remind members that the club has a car wash service which has to be prebooked with the reception. Fees are €10 for exterior wash only and €15 for both interior and exterior wash. The car wash service will be on -2 level.
New Members
Fifteen new members have been accepted since the last newsletter in December 2024.
